What is nursing?

Nursing is one of the noblest professions throughout the world. It means teamwork, courage, dedication, it also means knowing how to listen with patience and understanding. It helps guide and educate the sick people, boost their confidence and make them realize that all nursing actions are for their benefit.

Nursing is more than a job, is a calling. It brings joy to everyone from nurses, patients to relatives. Nursing is a diverse system which alleviates the pain and gives a human connection to people in need.

In order to fulfil one’s duties, the nurse must develop a series of skills and abilities, such as: attention, power of analysis and synthesis, precision, promptness, communication, decision-making capacity, thoroughness, organization, team spirit, adaptability to new situations, speed of reaction, creativity, responsibility, seriousness, confidentiality.

The Nursing and Sciences Department has on staff an eclectic group of specialists with rich experience in the field like doctors, general nurses, biology teachers, psychology teachers, physics teachers. In order to shape the new generation of nurses, all the mentors use interactive teaching methods, shifting from a traditional educational approach to a concept-based agenda, in order to improve critical thinking skills and strengthen the role of nurses in the field of medicine.

In order to integrate nurses in the European context, the school has a diverse range of projects with hospitals from the best performing health systems in Europe: Great Britain, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy. Take your pick!

The words of Virginia Henderson (1897 – 1996) capture the essence of the nurse: „Let the nurse be the conscience of the unconscious, the eye for the recently blinded, the hand for the amputee, the love of life for the one who’s trying to kill himself.”
